The (family) maiden voyage…because last week was “diagnostic”

It’s Friday already—so here comes the weekly report:
Last Saturday needs to not be documented for a variety of reasons so we’ll just skip to after we came home from a baptism I jumped on the mower trying to beat the rain. The kids were in charge of picking up the lawn and they were awesome about it-very cooperative. I’d been around the pool once and they needed a place to put the baseball net (that we never use for baseball but it works pretty good to hang towels on) so I come around the pool again-now I’m 2 mower widths away and I decide I’ll just zip back and forth right there real quick then they can drag the baseball screen into that spot I’ll be on my mowing way and they’ll be done and get to go in the house. πŸ‘πŸ» perfect.
Not quite.
Seth was riding with me (just in case they’d missed a stick or something he could jump off and get it for me) we were on our way! After I while I sent him in the house to tell his brothers we were ready for them to move the trampoline. I kept mowing and shortly after he came running up to me screaming “Mom. The pool is leaking. Mom The pool is leaking the pool is leaking.” What?!?!
OK, so I shut off the mower and went over to look and sure enough about a foot up water is spewing out! It looked like a faucet was turned on. 😩 After all those weeks of trying to get it cleaned out…
Such a bummer 😩😩
And it was 100% my fault, I flung something into it when I just went back-and-forth real quick mowing. I know better,  we always mow so it blows away from everything. But I didn’t and it pierced that metal side and the liner like a bullet.
The boys were trying to duct tape the outside edge, not going to work. We called Isaac, and he had them shove a plastic bag through it from the inside, until  he got home and assessed the situation, he decided to go to Walmart and buy one of those waterproof patches. Thankfully, it seems to be working. Or mostly working. I’m not sure I actually don’t even like blogging about it. It just makes me sick, so frustrated.— Why couldn’t I have done that when it was still green? Then we could’ve just drained it and started over…
Anyway, I am thankful that the patch does seem to be working.

Isaac started in on this ongoing toilet project Saturday…is it bad if I admit I’m thankful I haven’t had to help too much…😬 but it’s not done yet either.

And he hung me out to dry on bedtime but that goes back to the part of the story that needs to be skipped.
Sunday if there’s anything significant I can’t remember it. He went to the other wards ward council so I was on my own getting the troops to church but thankfully they’re getting big enough I really only have to worry about Seth and Addi then just chase the others out the door. Cannon is last every single week—it makes me a little nervous about early morning seminary next year. (Sigh)
Monday, I took Cannon down to Jeff’s City to the “airway orthodontist” recommended by the hygienist who cleaned his teeth… We didn’t have to leave early, but it was all day!!! I really liked the guy, but I think I’ll take him to the orthodontist appointment I already had made for him up here and if the treatment plan would be the same I think we’ll save ourselves four hours of driving every six weeks. But if he was gonna do something different, I would consider taking him down to that guy because I felt like he was really good.
All I know about what happened here was Colt slid into helper #1 (and maybe developed some empathy for Cannon) but they got another couple posts up for the building. They also mixed in some fun and built him a sword.

I ordered pizza while down in Jeff’s City and  picked it up here a couple hours later as we came through town. We had time to eat it—but that’s about it—then we were headed to baseball. Since I had spent all day with Cannon, I sent Isaac to Lancaster with him and the other kids and I went to Brashear with Tanner. Tanner had a great game! Couple hits, a put out at 2nd base, he even had a fly ball hit to him when he was in the outfield (He didn’t catch it. I’m not sure he knew it was his ball, but I’m just saying he was just involved all game long.) I thought he would have loved it. So afterward I said “Tanner you had a great game, good job, did you have so much fun?!” And he just kinda shrugged and said it was ok. And when Wednesday rolled around he chose to skip his game and go to Valiant activities, (Sometimes I wonder if we’re even related. 😬 Just kidding.) but he didn’t particularly enjoy those either, I asked if he wished he’d played baseball instead and he said “not really.” …ok

I really can’t tell if he likes it or not. But he is grinning in the picture-as long as it goes well I think he likes it in the moment. 🀷🏻‍♀️
Cann’s game went well too but he said he just walked 3 times so nothing to exciting.
Tuesday the software Isaac ordered for the ECM (not sure on those letters I’ve heard it a hundred times but who says I pay attention?) anyway the software finally came, so we were in business!! He could hook it up to the boat and make his adjustments. We had basically given up on it getting here before they had to go to YM’s camp. But it came so he did his thing and we scrambled to get it put back together and get out to the lake…and we did!

We left about quarter to six…

And you know we didn’t come home until after dark!
It was pretty fun though.

We’re definitely still figuring it out. When I skied the first time the boat got stuck on 9.8mph or something like that on cruise control, so I got up…but it was too slow and I was not very up and fighting so hard Isaac had his head in the screen trying to figure it  out Seth was just giving me the hand signals asking if I wanted to speed up. It was all I could to do let go with one hand and give him a thumbs up…twice! Nothing changed. Finally-exhausted from plowing so hard against so much water I just let go. Isaac was like “yeah sorry I couldn’t figured it out-I wished you would’ve given up sooner.” Gee thanks.
I did go one more time and it was fun, the wake was weird -not even at all -but we’re figuring it out. I only remember my back leg getting tired last year but that didn’t happen, instead I went (not very long) until I had a crazy Charlie-horse in my front legs hamstring. I tried to push through it but that wasn’t happening. There’ll be lots more chances for longer runs.  Isaac thought it might have been from dragging so hard the first go around. Maybe.

Then it was Isaac’s turn…which meant I needed to drive (truly Cannon should have) but wow—I’m sure it will get better but I HATED being the driver! We’ll see if I get the terminology right-but the old boat had and inboard outboard motor so when you turn the wheel it responded. New boat—not at all. I felt like in those bumper cars  you drive when you’re a kid and you spin your wheel and it just spins indefinitely but you don’t turn at all. New boat (inboard motor) responds if the motor’s engaged but every time I’d disengage it we’d just spin wherever the wind blew us—and I was dumb enough to spin the dumb bumper car wheel, while  I was trying get lined up with Isaac to pull him straight—it was wildly frustrating! And Cannon and Colton were just chirping away trying to coach me up. Well intended—sometimes even helpful, but…🀯🀯🀯
He actually wrecked (I didn’t know that was even possible) and whacked his knee pretty hard. But he still went again and had a good run.

It is weird on the old boat I could feel him cut and pull against the boat but I only felt it once or twice and barely at all. He wanted a more powerful boat—I think he got it.

So even with Come Follow Me on the drive home by time  everyone got showered and ate some 2nd dinner we got to bed around 11:30 or midnight. I got Cannon up for him to go to weights at 6 the next day and that seemed like a pretty quick turn around! I think Isaac actually took him in though because he said something like “Cann wants to go again today.” When he came home,  I was like yeah right.
They were going to mow at the lady they minister to’s place. And hopefully the cemetery. We were supposed to pack them up for YM’s camp, they had bikes to fix up for that nights activities. We had things to do!

My friend Connie and I scheduled a little ministering walk-for before I would need to pick up Cannon so I did that and the other kids got in on the sword fun:

I picked him up after my walk when he was done with basketball and we headed to Aldi. The grocery store is constantly put off in the summer but we stopped and grabbed some quick essentials-bread milk eggs cheese, we’ll survive. But when we got home Cann started in on his dad again “Can we go? Can we go?” (It helps when it’s where Isaac wants to be too.)  So Isaac asked every single kid and got a yes-but said “ok but we have to ask mom” and then came and asked me. So I have veto power but I’m going against everyone if I use it. No thanks. Instead I just went with it. Maybe someday I’ll be spontaneous, for now I just try to hold on. I threw in more and better snacks this time and off we went with the agreement we would be off the water by 4:00. (We were close—ish but I’m smart enough to know we wouldn’t have been in real trouble time wise until more like 4:45) It was 4:00 and Tanner faked us out AGAIN getting us to think he’d try something, we all want him to try it so bad but he just won’t. He let Isaac pull him with his arms to simulate getting up on the wakeboard but when Isaac let go he sunk and went under (for .5 of a second) and then  it was game over. It doesn’t make any sense-you can’t drag the kid out of the pool but he’s so nervous about the lake, because, his words “you can’t touch and you can’t see and you might wreck and get water up your nose” UG, If he ever tries it I think he’ll love it…
Colts pretty close on Surfing.

Isaac did it! I guess his knee’s okπŸ‘πŸ»
I tried-but I have some work to figure it out. I like a lot of weight on my back leg (skiing) so I wasn’t getting any slack in my rope. Cann-would rather wake board! Anyway we went we had fun, we got back I threw together some grilled cheese and we called it dinner. Oh and Colt invited his buddy Carter last minute to play soccer at YM’s and he came!! Seth crashed pretty early that night but Addi fell asleep on the drive home from the lake and I let her stay asleep and that was a mistake! She was full of energy!

Thursday Cann went into weights and I jogged the loop. Then we got him, Colt, and dad off to YM’s camp and we’ve just been hanging out. They’ve had a ton of rain at camp πŸ‘ŽπŸ» I guess our boys want to just come home tonight but Isaac didn’t drive. (soaking wet sleeping bags but Isaac said knew it wasn’t going to be good when they started setting them up while it was raining…)

It’s not very warm but we’ve been in the pool both days -until Addi gets cold which is way too soon for Tanners liking. I did take these kids up to the “5 cent skittle” Amish store. We didn’t find 5 cent skittles but we did buy 10 cent sour patch kids so it didn’t disappoint. But we also found out they are closing because they’re moving. Bad for our sweet teeth—good for our dental bills.

Anyway I think that’s about it. Oh except somebody (acquaintance from church)  called to see if I/we wanted to adopt/rescue/whatever 4 baby raccoons that are abandoned at his neighbors…🀣 um no, read last weeks post,  my people were out hunting them, or how bout there’s one in the yard right now Belle hauled home. We’re good. 🀣

Oh And I totally lied about Sunday! Sunday our cute friend Nan spoke in church as one of the stake leaders- we got home and Isaac was looking up some talk she referenced on YouTube. I hadn’t heard anything about it so we decided that part of her talk must have come when Addi had talked me into taking her to the bathroom for a false alarm. She just wanted a break from sitting quietly on the bench!  But anyway Isaac finds the BYU speech on YouTube but I can’t find it on byuspeeches but I could find the pdf. Weird. But it’s called Unleashing the Dormant Spirit by F Enzio Busche  and it’s really good he had 20 points to ponder and “seek identification” with. They were pretty good I made a note on my phone but I don’t know how I really want to study them yet. But anyway it sent me on a little Elder Busche hunt where I’ve listened to some of his other talks, I have more to go but that might be a weird thing about me but I do love a good spiritual rabbit hole!!

Oh the stories I could tell…but that’s every week right?
I always say our kids are keeping us young—I hope that’s true, annnnd I’m starting to think Isaac’s projects are aging us, or at least me😜 maybe they’re keeping him young…🀷🏻‍♀️
So I’m starting the blog from the friendly confines of the skid steer seat. Colt saved the day and went and got me my phone. Before that I was just sitting, waiting, twiddling my thumbs. For some reason my phone didn’t charge last night so I had plugged it in when I noticed that it was at 4% (Isaac runs his dead all the time I’m not sure mine has ever seen 4%) anyway, so phoneless I was in the kitchen and I looked out the window and Isaac had Cannon running the excavator and he was in the manlift and they’re working on another truss… so I keep puttering away but every time I looked out, I thought “oh crud he’s gonna need my help” but I kept thinking I would just get one more thing done before I went out and offered to help…well before too long Seth came in and said “mom, mom, dad needs your help.” So here I am! He needed to trade the manlift which was holding the weight of the truss for the skid steer so he could use the manlift to do other things…and now I am a skid steer operator. Mostly sitting…adjusting slightly here or there when told. πŸ‘πŸ»
That’s as much of the story as I got told from the skid steer, now I’m at the ball field for Tanners game and if I was a betting woman I’d bet I’ll finish blogging late into the night just throwing pictures on—like usual.
I guess I better get to the pics and see what they tell us.
I’m pretty sure the bigs  were focused on the boat Saturday…I won’t pretend to remember what part…I know it started and they were pumped but then it didn’t…I can’t keep up.
Addi and Seth were rotating between the treadmill and the motorcycles down stairs  and Tan was entertaining himself by burning things with the magnifying glass.

Ultimately everyone is getting in on the boat fun. If you’re not relaxing at the lake you might as well pretend to be.

Sunday Seth got picked to dress up like a missionary while we sang “I want to be a missionary now” and since since I snapped some pics to send to send to other moms…I figured I better snag one for me too.
And Cann…he just really wanted to see his hair. Teenager.

3 of 4 had orange ties on—I should’ve got Colt to switch and tried for a family pic…or at least new pics on the wall…maybe one of these days. 🀞🏻
I was chatting with my folks Sunday night when Colt came running in so excited they’d found a “pet” turtle in the neighbors field.

Convinced the thing was their pet they had to keep the other pets away. And then it crawled over to their fort, they were PUMPED! Sure he was a real pet-here to stay. I was told he was pretty speedy on his way to the fort πŸ˜‚ —they named him him “Turbo” And we looked up what snapping turtles eat.
We’ve been learning the song I See a Hero in primary for Fathers Day…so they reworked the lyrics. I have a voice recording that will hopefully make the weekly video but I didn’t think to take a picture of their little note sheet until it was partially destroyed.
My apologies to the dads the song was actually written for πŸ˜‚ (I’m sure I’m at least partly to blame for having Seth sing to Mrs Feeney and changing a few words)
And speaking of the weekly video, that  night I got last week uploaded.

On to Monday-I felt like we shoved a weeks worth of fun into one day!
Check out the pool progress! Maybe we had hot dogs for lunch in the pool (don’t tell my vegan friends πŸ™„)

Ok and that’s the end of the ball park blogging…not bad. Hotdogs must’ve been a good stopping point.
So more Monday:
Isaac took Cann and Colt on a little trial run to see how and if the boat would run. They were just going for a diagnostic trip. It ran…they were supposed to be back by 6:00 for baseball. I snagged these off Isaac’s phone: (I’m just glad he took some!) hopefully more like this all summer long!!!

And apparently they replaced some carpet on the boat trailer too…so really I should feel great about 6:10-6:15. I just hate that late feeling. But of course it worked out it —always does.
Tanners game was in LaPlata-Isaac took him and I sent Colt along to take pics—since I didn’t have any of Tan.
He was so disappointed the flash went off and it focused on the fence on the one he had of him scoring.

He was so great to try for me.
Addi Seth and I headed to Cannons game in Brashear (which was late getting started (so we were there in plenty of time) we found a close park for  during warmups (Addi’s asked to go back there at least 3 time since—good news for her Tanner plays over there Monday)

Then I kept book, so Pez dispensers were the babysitters…they could only load a new pack if it was a new inning. That’s still a lot of Pez 🀒
Doing the book I keep me busy so I only got one quick pic of Cann playing catcher during warmups -his first time ever! He did great!

The kid pitching throws like 70 or something…pretty quick for Cann’s group. He looked nervous having a batter in there at first but he settled right it. I loved watching him-I thought he did awesome. Being involved in every play-I thought he would’ve loved it. Not so much. He beat the heck out of his thumb (he asked if I had tape after the first or second inning-I didn’t that probably would have helped a ton though.) And it was really stressful for him. The last inning when they switched things up and his coach moved him back to short he smiled and said “my home!” …I don’t know if he’ll do it again-hopefully not until his thumb heals up. I know he won’t volunteer. πŸ˜‚
On the way home (it was so late why didn’t I send Addi and  Seth to the game that would end sooner????)  But driving home thankfully I was wearing my glasses -I have to at night- but I saw something in the road and slammed up little then a LOT! We came too close for comfort to hitting a deer…and my kids heard my dying word. Ug-sorry guys. Did I write last week about the primary kid busting my chops for saying “stupid”???—yeah, not that S word.
Anyway…Mondays fun also included listening to my own blog-turned podcast. Isaac’s brother sent it to me. It was hilarious! Sometimes I laughed so hard I almost cried—and it was mostly accurate. When I listened with Isaac he said “why does it say my name and not yours? …I’m going to start calling you ‘the source’”  sorry Honeybear, author privileges! But I confess it made me think about things and what I explain—or don’t. 🀷🏻‍♀️ 15 years of the weekly report…I’m a creature of habit at this point.
Tuesday Cannon started summer weight training for football—he’s been pretty sore. I decided I’d  take him and then just try to get my own exercise in-I’ve been pretty sore too. Ha!
We had some rainy weather so they had to find some inside fun…they made Candles until I put the kibosh on it—they had a huge flame I was afraid they were going to burn the house down!
There’s also been some serious and intense drawing projects around here lately too.

Isaac’s taken to buffing the boat…gotta do something while he waits for parts to come right?

Actually at this point we still hadn’t touched the building since the boat guy called…but as mentioned at the beginning we come around—we are still very much in the middle of the building project!

These guys play sticks for hours! All part of being a kid I guess.

And this girl was so proud of making the door a new color for me with her popsicle. Gee thanks sis. Here’s a rag-get to work!
But we mostly play…or dance? That one threw us all off!

And these kids were so fun! They were over playing their stick game when Addi talked me into jumping. As soon as I came out they all came over to jump with me too—it was so cute! They like me! Even if they forget sometimes .πŸ˜‰

Then all of the sudden yesterday, after it’d been a week of not touching it -partly because of the rain- but just as quickly as we’d abandoned it-we were going back full fledged into the building project.

Cann is earning his new cleats…ok I bought those after he helped all last week, this week it was basketball shoes. There’s not shortage of wants with that kid…but I don’t want him wearing too small of shoes either so…keep helping and not complaining Cann—it’ll work out for ya.

Cannon’d tell ya his siblings always get to play while he works, he is helper #1 …but …some of the time it’s true. Colt gets roped in sometimes too.
But those playing siblings…look how blue that pool they’re playing in is! Now if we can keep it that way 🀞🏻🀞🏻

Colt went on a little jog with me this morning that was fun-his young legs get going a lot faster than mine but mine last longer…for now.
Currently super dad took them all Coon hunting. It was peaceful to blog—that’s a win. But I think I just heard the truck.
So that’s the wrap until next week!
Oh I did get a pic of Tanner tonight.
