 We play hard!

Honestly it kind of freaks me out, I come from a work hard background. Maybe a play never mindset. For me growing up Family vacations were trips to Panguitch Lake where my dad could work,  fixing fence. As kids we played but that was not something responsible adult would do-ever- I played hard, but because it was always in the athletic realm I thought I was “working hard” so it was acceptable. I don’t why I wrote that…maybe I’m afraid we play too much??? Hopefully it all counts as family “wholesome recreational activities” πŸ˜‰  Anyway about this play’n hard—I’ll tell ya what we’ve been up to:

We made it to Hays last week at about 2:30 in the morning then all crammed into one little hotel room with 2 double beds. Colt and Seth slept on the floor, Tanner and Cannon on one bed, Addi Isaac and I on the other. If you’re wondering why we didn’t just keep driving…I was too. I have just as much room laying down in the middle of the van.

The pic above was right before the meltdown.

I wish the next line was we survived and made it to Worlds of Fun. But before that we have  to document the complete disaster. The kids wanted to watch tablets but Isaac wanted them to wait until we only had a 1/2 hour of our drive left, well, Colt had to pee and we were 39 minutes away from World of Fun,  when we got back in the car, the kids were tired of hearing “you’ve been really good,  I really appreciate it but we’re going to wait a little bit longer” (and they were tired, tired too) but they snapped. All of them. Pretty much at once—maybe except Seth but Addi was screaming and carrying on, Tanner went RAGE mode and I don’t know what all he said except that it would be better if Isaac was on mars, Cannon went snotty teenager  and told us how the only reason the tablets are an issue is because of our pride (it has nothing to do with their behavior afterward…or in this case beforeπŸ™„) Colt right behind Cann on the snotty teenager mode “called it all” that dad wasn’t really going to let them do it and could basically predict the future. Oh man I’m exhausted all over again just typing about it. I could’ve probably told a little better story if I’d done it in the moment…I thought about it but…didn’t. Anyway,  then nobody wanted lunch and no body wanted to go to Worlds of Fun and everyone just wanted to go home. But no way were we not going after we had spent the night. So we ordered pizza (supposedly ahead of time but ot took forever) and went to the park. “You’re gunna have fun whether you like it or not!” …basically!

Isaac and Cannon got in line for a roller coaster the other kids and I headed for the water park.

Nightmare.

There were so many people-we stay away from the lake on Saturdays-why wouldn’t we have thought of that? I had to deal with the kids and changing clothes-then trying to keep track of everything. Colt did not want to be there, Addi had skinned her knee that morning and refused to get her bandaid wet, I caught Tanner smiling!

I think that was a good sign.  It was a fun place (too many people but…) it was just tricky trying keep everyone with a buddy but Addi wouldn’t do anything. Finally after and hour or so Isaac and Cannon came back -said their ride was fun- then he took the younger kids (got Addi to get in) and basically forced the 3 big boys and I to go do the mat race. It was pretty fun. We almost did it again but instead went on a tube one. When we divide and  conquer I don’t usually get the big kids but it was fun.  (I did, however, learned that I’m super claustrophobic in those tube slides— I don’t like it when you can’t see any light or anything in fact, I hate—but I still think I won the race πŸ˜‰ ) Anyway after our two slide rides we met back up with Isaac Addi  and Seth they had fun too, The plan was to just find one small roller coaster that everybody could do on our way out of the park and head for home… We found something called the red Mustang that Addi was tall enough for and it was red and it had a horse on it so she was sold… But then they were hooked and they wanted to stay and do one more ride. I bet I said one more ride seven or eight times!

The bigs  did the detonator,  not far from there was Snoopy land-and boy did they like those airplanes (Addi only rode behind Seth once then she wanted to Fly her own!!)

By the time we finally left, we weren’t gonna get home until almost 11 o’clock but we still need to eat so once we factored that and we were gonna be past 11 o’clock so Walmart would be closed, we had to find a place that had a Walmart on the way so we could grab some food for Sunday and some milk be able to survive till we made a real trip to the grocery store. We stopped at Walmart in Chillicothe (Questionable travel dinner at best, but we’d had our site set on KFC and it just didn’t work out…but nobody starved) and we rolled in about 11:15.

Belle was super happy to see us-and met us down by the gate, but we couldn’t actually drive up the driveway because it was washed out so we tried to drive up the front yard but the van didn’t make it pulling those motorcycles 😬 we parked in the middle of the front yard took up what we had to and left the rest for another day.

And took the truck to church Sunday morning!

Tanner was unbearable Sunday. Tired ❌ hungry ❌ (it was fast Sunday and that dinner was…not the best…) and then later I found out he was sick ☹️ pretty sure  that’s the 3rd strike ❌ he slept most of the day once we got home but we did stay extra for a Jack Hilton’s baptism.

Monday Seth got on the motorcycle and Cann wanted to practice wheelys

I did Mountains of laundry and worked on getting the boys ready for the youth Branson trip. Addi woke up with the same thing Tanner had had but luckily he was feeling better. Later that evening, she was laying on the living room floor and she kept telling me something but she’s so hard to understand— I finally figured out she was saying “I’m sick as a  dog!” It was pretty funny and pretty sad! Colt buddy had been missing the lake so we had a lake trip planned for that night but I ended up staying home with Addi and Seth so Isaac had me text Hayley and the older Page kids went. We only had two spare seats in the truck, but they just drove down and met them. They were late getting out and LATE coming home but I think everyone had fun.

Got the boys off Tuesday morning and fed the missionaries and their friend that night. Addi’s preschool teacher and classroom helper stopped by, she has Ms Chrissie this year, which both Tanner and Seth have had, but I was just glad they stopped by a day the living room was already picked up and we didn’t look like as big of pigs! I didn’t know if the boys were having fun in Branson or not, but it was worth making them go for the conversation I had with Tanner that night in his room that for that moment was his own room. Sometimes …often…things weigh pretty heavy on him. I was actually so frustrated with him earlier and kind of just told him to snap out of it, but then he came in while I was trying to get the younger kids to bed and screamed at me “you’re not helping” Screaming at me was not ideal, but I also recognized Oh crud he’s right, so eventually I went in and tried to just listen. It took a while (it was pretty dang late) but eventually he was able to unload a little and he seemed to feel okay about life.

Wednesday was awesome—I mostly had my happy boy back! I need to figure out how to help him so it can always be that way. Maybe I just need to find chances to listen to him better. 🀷🏻‍♀️

Wednesday after Seth and Addi prayed and prayed for it…we totally took them back to Worlds of Fun! Just a little day trip—long—but pretty fun. (And now if we never go again at least the passes we bought were “worth it” ) While the brothers were at a theme park in Branson, we went back to the one  in KC!

Tann was Isaac’s roller coaster buddy so I didn’t get near as many pics of them but they went on all the big ones. I stayed with Addi and Seth (he did do 1 or 2 big ones but he hated them…but liked saying he’d done them) my only mistake was the teacups 🀒

We weren’t as late as Saturday…but we didn’t get home early either!

And no pics of the boys in Branson…hopefully my YW will come through for me on that. The report was they had a great time too though—and even the play they said was awesome. If it hadn’t been for the camping they said it would have been the perfect trip. πŸ‘πŸ»

I don’t know what we did (except recover) Thursday and the boys got home but it was LATE! I almost stayed up for them…almost. Oh I cleaned out the filthy van…now if would just get after the house …πŸ€”

Today’s been pretty chill. I worked on YW stuff and then tried to clean pics off my phone…I’m sure I did more than that but we’re going too call that good—

Until next time!!

Ison family fun week 2026

Saturday was mostly a pack up day since we needed to be on the road by 7:00 Sunday morning but Cann did a good job helping in Beaver.

Isaac doubles as the Frei Fanily fix it man. My mom was super happy he fixed the button that pushes the door open on the microwave. He had an assistant but my mom swears Chip would have never tackled that without Isaac. I mean, buy a new one maybe, but fix the old…no chance. πŸ˜‰

But they got it done!

And he got the electric bike tire fixed tooπŸ‘πŸ»

I went swimming with the younger kids and we had a great time but I didn’t have my phone so no evidence of those trains down the slide…or my attempted back flip…I mean I figured if Cannon could do it I might as well try! I kept slapping my knees so when Isaac came to check on us I showed him and he said I needed to go from higher up-not just the edge of the pool-not sure I’m willing to do that, I hate heights!!

Saturday night the fix-it man was on duty again working on Riley’s truck.

I was waiting until the sun went down to load the van but it’s was still 105 at 11:00 at night πŸ₯΅

We got out on time though and hit the rode for Kate’s farewell.

The kids fought like crazy-except when sleeping- it was miserable except when they were sleeping. But that is why I’m currently blogging from the back seat of the van!

We dropped the trailer and I ran and met Sarah on I-80 quick but the best added bonus of that was Isaac talked Nathan into pulling it up the mountain for us! 😊

Kate did awesome on her talk!

It was busy at their house so we grabbed a picture up at the cabin!

We shipped a couple kids off with Grandma Ison —she’s so awesome I know she totally had to rearrange for us to do that, but when Isaac ask she just said “sure” and made it happen! And she let Cannon drive—better her than me in the car with him on I-15 traffic!

Anyway after the farewell down 2 kids and the trailer family fun we was on. We went to Scofield this year.

We always have a good time!

I need to make some collages-cuz I have a million pics!

Ok here we go…

It’s always so fun to see everyone and visit. At one point Stacy said (she was talking about church stuff and Levi is serving as Bishop right now) but she said Levi wasn’t “exactly Captain of the fun ship” πŸ˜‚ ok I can see that—but he might be the Admiral???  He  bought these e-foils and brought them for everyone to try out!

Actually I wish these were all big pics because they were so fun! But we were pushing it with the zoom-most of them aren’t great. But basically you’re riding a remote control surf board in the water that you’re driving. They were a blast! The kayaks just kept the kids busy waiting for turns.

We’re sold! But they are spendy little suckers…that’s one thing Isaac’s brothers will make you scratch your head and wonder how they are possibly related! πŸ˜‚
Wednesday we went down into to town and found a jumphouse and Cann got his return appointment at the grid! He’s been waiting since last time!

Poor Mel had to drop off Kate at the MTC that day so that was hard! But we rode up the canyon together and it really was so fun to visit, we grabbed a milkshake and made it an “outlaw therapy session” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ …but kinda true. I have awesome in-laws! And us outlaws all concur on that and can relate! πŸ˜‰

Back at the cabin the younger kids rode motorcycles (Cann did awesome going with the bigs, Ethan and Brent got me a few pics)

We tried on a hike but… it was kindof a fail.

I do think a vacation where he can ride motorcycles with his brothers is perfect in Isaac’s world! Last night Isaac and Nathan ride until way past dark but as they were leaving they saw a herd ok Elk so we drove to check them out! Impressive! There were tons! Colt asked for my phone to make a collage…and this is what I got πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

But the elk

Nathan came through with a few pics!

Maybe we should get a motorcycle with a headlight?

And I’ve never stayed up and watched a movie at one of those get togethers, I’d just rather go to bed. But now I have, once, the classic “what about Bob?” sucked me in. We laughed so hard and even Cannon liked it (currently we really don’t like a lot of similar things when it comes to entertainment) but it was fun, just late. Then I didn’t sleep well…not ideal but oh well.

Today we stopped at the hot springs just outside Glenwood springs in Colorado. Not the nice ones-just the free ones but we really didn’t thing that through-let’s go to some hot pots when it’s 100 degrees outside. Ug!

Oh yeah and we’ve already blown a tire on that piece of crud trailer. Why don’t we buy a new one? 🀷🏻‍♀️ we were still in Utah! Hopefully we make it home with the spares—they are pretty bald!

Anyway the plan is Hays Kansas tonight-then get up and go again tomorrow with our sights set on Worlds of Fun (the amusement park) in KC. My favorite day of any vacation is the day you go home, so I’d rather just get home but we’re determined to use the passes we bought.😬 Haven’t we had enough fun?

I think that’s about it. I know there’s a least a couple pics I missed but at some point enough’s enough! I gotta quit—see ya next time!

Summer Utah trip round 2

Lake Days

Saturday

Then we spent all day Saturday trying to get ready to go. (Had to burn that pile of grass clippings…probably should’ve started before the rain.)

Hopefully I did enough to keep Colts plants alive…he’s the plant man—I can kill anything 😩

And then Sunday. Oh boy! I was sustained as the Young Wonen’s president! 😳 The church is still true—I hope I don’t screw this up! It was a sad day telling my cute primary friends. I have loved that calling so much-it was good for me. But…here we go! I’ll do my best!

That has been my big stress the last couple weeks, and then hey, way to accept a new calling and then skip town for a couple weeks. 😬 Perfect. Luckily, the old president had it running like a well oiled machine, but holy cow… I guess we’ll figure it out! Eventually!

We hit the road about 6:30 or so Sunday night, (we got slowed up a little bit watching the World Cup final😬 Those guys are so impressive with their feet, but it’s still so boring to watch. They just never score. Oh that goalie from Argentina though…he was impressive, could’ve ended a lot sooner if he wasn’t so good though…) Anyway, we got to Huntington around noon or 1:00 or something. We weren’t sure if we were going up to get motorcycle until we did, so we didn’t get to see Shawn‘s kids, But we played on their new toy!

We grabbed the motorcycles a mini nap and then we came down to Santa Clara

We had missed our Colt buddy!! (And what better way to say I love you than with a pillow fight??)

And some cousin time Tuesday —yes please!!!

But they’re teenagers now so…they got into some stupid bets… they would come up with some ridiculous thing and then roll some dice to see if they had to do it or not… Elsie ended up having to get directions from some random car and then walk the other way and Cannon and Colton got stuck eating gross things. Cannon’s were sardines and I actually can’t remember what Colton’s was…maybe clams…

That morning we did a little service project over at Jen’s to say thank you for always letting us use her pool!

And these guys wrapped up the day by playing “bigger or better” in Grama’s neighborhood, an idea that was hatched while they were swimming, they started with a couple cans of root beer, they had a blast!

Wednesday just wasn’t as fun with no cousins but it was a great day at the temple!

And maybe we hit Paula’s too πŸ˜‹

Thursday I don’t know what all we did but Chip and I went over and visited with my pitching coach Fern. It was so dang fun! We had a great visit, I’m so glad Google came through for me, I had an old email and an old phone number for herπŸ‘ŽπŸ». But it all worked out and I have her contact updated now. But it was so fun, she said someone told her “getting older isn’t for wimps” but she seemed healthy and  exactly the same! She said she’s tired of taking care of her house so assisted living could be on the horizon but for now her and her little dog Annie are getting along good. (I think the dog figured we stayed too long, we messed up their afternoon trip to the park—hopefully they got it in after we left) but so what a great person, coach, and friend-she’s the best! We lucked into her retiring and moving down here when she did! How was that 30 years ago?? Crazy!!  My only regret it I didn’t grab a selfie with the 3 of us as we were walking out. I dropped the ball. Dangit (Ky says I’d take a picture if my house was burning down. True. But I missed that one.)

I confess to a little shopping oh and Isaac and Cannon went down to the auction and drove fancy cars, they took pics for me but neither one of them text me so I don’t have them…

Today they  got out on a little motorcycle ride and Isaac went by himself one morning to so it was good we had them but it’s been pretty warm!

I took Colt to buy new running shoes and went to town with Grama and when they went swimming today so we’ve had more fun and more cousin time but I didn’t document it πŸ˜‰ Tonight Super dad and Super Grama took them to Enterprise to the rodeo. Ann sent me a pic 😊

It was a little crazy-the littles didn’t want left out Ann and Elsie couldn’t go because they’re going to volunteer with the flooding cleanup in Beaver tomorrow so they needed to go home but Isaac said no worries he’d take’m home, and Cannons going to (willingly!!!! Anything for cousin time πŸ‘πŸ») go serve too. So Grama took her car too so there would be enough seats and presumably everyone is having a great time! 🀞🏻Look at those smiles! —me’n grampa are holding the couches down.

I don’t know if that’s it but it’s most of it!
Ok a couple more random pics…

I have more but that’s all I got uploaded.
Oh And we ran that electric bike till the tire was flat—so we’ve stayed busy and had fun. That’s a win!!
How do these weeks go by so fast??

Update extra pics from Isaac:
The auction, they stopped by Ritchie Bro’s too but the only report I got was it was smoke’s hot!

Their ride over in Warner Valley
And before the chicken chase at the Rodeo —no chicken this time.
