Tan and I are trying to learn how to whistle 😂
He’s getting it—I’m hit and miss. But the best was us watching YouTube videos to try and figure how to do it and the one guy said “you shouldn’t cat call that’s disrespectful” well my kids had no idea what he meant by that but the next day we stopped at the bottom of the driveway to get the mail and one of the cats was down there. I can’t remember who said what but it was Seth and Tanner and one of them said “here kitty kitty” and the other one said “Hey! Stop it, remember that guy said it was bad to call the cat.” 😂
Saturday we painted and went swimming and waited for our brothers to come home from young men’s camp.
Young men’s camp! It rained pretty much the whole time. They were drown rats. Even Isaac (who always ends up going as a leader because he can when others have to work) said “I wasn’t very prepared for that much rain.” It sounded miserable. But we tried our best to encourage good attitudes. Cann said there was a foot of water in one corner of their tent and he was on that side because he had an air mattress and could float 😂. So he caught up on some sleep when he got home.
Sunday Isaac had to speak at the Bear Creek ward (Columbia) which made a long day for our kids because I was already committed leading the special musical number the primary kids were singing in both wards. So we had to wait around for an extra sacrament mtg and I talked these two into singing with both groups.
They did great—don’t they look thrilled?
But Isaac is really trying to not think gifts are just stupid emphasis on how commercialized our world is (thank you Elders Kearon’s talk…I think that’s at least part of it) but he was awesome-being excited about his new toys. Colt said “Dad sounded genuinely excited…but if you look in his eye-it’s still a stretch.”😂 Colt is pretty perceptive, but I don’t care I am THRILLED with the improvement. Happy Fathers Day! We love him and really think he’s the best!
Monday was busy but mostly because we had things we needed to get done but we wanted to go to the lake because it was our only free evening.
They found some pool time though-they usually do.
Addi helped me make a lasagna and we put it in the oven and set it with a delay start and cook time. Then when she went down for a Power Nap, Seth went with me over to the cemetery. Isaac and Cann had been on a little service project and when they finished they just dropped the mower off at the cemetary for me.
We got it mowed-and Sethy found a loot of wild black raspberries.
Then we got home—the plan was eat that lasagna for an early dinner then hit the lake…but that lasagna was on top of the stove…Cold. This is the second time recently, but I thought I just forgot to set it last time, maybe my oven is broken?…Nope, Isaac decided he wanted toasted buns for his hot dogs so he took it out and forgot to put it back in. Dinner plans thwarted. So we had toast and headed to the lake anyway!
But fake out boys-we’re not playing, dad wants your help fixing the carpet on the boat trailer.
I took these pics from my position holding the boat at the dock. They were hurrying, but they weren’t very fast—and it was hot!
But we did get on the water eventually and had some fun! But we only have picture evidence of Cannon having fun. 🤷🏻♀️
Isaac redid the boat trailer job (himself) Tuesday or Wednesday morning (I can’t remember) but he just took it to the close lake since he wasn’t really going to run it’s bigger than 90HP motor.
Then it was the cushion, what a nightmare! It had a rip so he ordered a new cushion cover several months back. I wish we wouldn’t have. We ended up just e6000’n the old one and it didn’t look bad and worked just fine…but we didn’t know how long it would hold and he’d already ordered the replacement so we went for it.

He was still working on it at 10:45…PM! When it comes to his projects the man has the patience of Job!…I don’t! 😉
But he got it done. Eventually.
I went on a walk with my friend while the cushions were drying out and that was fun, it’s so rare that we get to visit! Her kids play travel ball. She wasn’t complaining but just telling me about their weekend and I was just listening but completely horrified. The outrageous costs—so high! I think we’re doing things right entertainment wise with this boat thing. Last year the boat was free! Ok, he bought this one but of course he shopped and shopped until he found a broken one that was a deal he could fix up (so Isaac) but for a little bit of gas and a few snacks our family is together, outside, having fun, cheering each other on, and so on! Of course it’s not fight free—but it’s good.
We had baseball Tuesday night-I confess I would have been fine with a rainout, but once we were playing I wanted to play…but we got rained out. Bummer! Seemed like the worst scenario to me.
This girl sure likes it when she can talk me into playing pups with her!
And they had a little carburetor project…we still haven’t won on this yet.
The older boys got to play Hungry Hippos for YM. They had a blast!
Then they made their own gospel connections, which I can’t remember most of, some were pretty good, some were eh…but I do remember Colt saying “It kind of goes against playing the game but really there’s enough to go around for everyone there’s no need to hoard gospel things.” I like that—I think it’s true.
Anyway Monday was really our only night to go to the lake this week so I thought we’d just go that once. Silly me…when will I learn? We had a little window Thursday afternoon…a little window is all Isaac needs. He’s the one that had a call to make at 4:30 and to meet with a student at 5:00 and then Stake Meetings in Moberly he had to leave by 6 for…I figured if we were off the water by 3:30 we’d be fine. So I told him 3:00…we pulled out at 4:00.
The most ridiculous part is he pulled everything off. (He always does…but guess who picks up the pieces-wait you already know, and so does he.) He even had time before heading to Moberly to meet me in town when I took Cannon into baseball and grab the sandwiches I’d thrown together for him that he forgot…Whatever works right?
Anyway the sun zapped younger kids did not want to go to baseball so Colt and the screens tended and I went to baseball. Cann’s team was playing so good against far and away the best team in their league. It was tied 4-4 after three innings…and then the wheels came off and it was same old same old. But I hope they realized they can play with those guys…and I hope they can eliminate some of the dumb mistakes too! I mean, I can hope. There were a lot.
But I almost forgot the lake pics:
He got up just long enough to tip over, but I think he figured out it’s not so bad…if you don’t get up you just try again.
And that gets us to today—a great day to for a temple trip!
Which we followed it up by hitting our favorite Mennonite store’s “Late Night Summer Sale” which was pretty fun. They had free hotdogs and drinks and ice cream and kettle corn…my people were pretty much in heaven. Wait—I probably shouldn’t say that about a dumb store right after we’d been to the temple but you get the idea.
Finally after all the (extra…I buy a lot of treats on my own) but extra treats flying into my cart I said you all get to pick one thing. Well, they promptly dropped the treats and headed for the toy section…🤯
Cann and Addi still picked a case of drinks but I came home with two new stuffed animals…which makes me absolutely crazy… until I look at the twinkle in their eyes and see them having so much fun. Fine. Someday we’ll get rid of stuffed animals—just not yet.
And we all know that’s my preferred type of animal so what am I complaining about?
Colt also got a magnetic hour glass toy…I don’t what it was…but he liked it and I think they all had fun. Good enough.
I think that’s it.
